The Garage at Chatham (The GAC) is in many ways a product of the Covid-19 pandemic. Jon Morrell, a renowned opera singer, and his wife, Adrienne, a former opera singer, discovered the acoustical possibilities while working on their garage in the Village of Chatham, NY. Along with Thomas Carlo Bo, a composer/conductor who lives in an apartment on the property, they produced a locally sourced classical concert in the summer of 2020 as a thank-you for the Village during these challenging times. The concert was a huge success, prompting them to create The GAC and produce their first full summer season in 2021. These again were proven successful, and lead to the 2022 season of 12 performances, as well as a second season of outdoor Sculpture shows, curated by George Spencer. Spencer has curated two sculpture seasons for The GAC: Winter Over (2021, in collaboration with the Joyce Goldstein Gallery in Chatham and TSL in Hudson), and two shows for The GAC’s 2022 season: The Garden of Good and Evil (June 11-July 24) and Sculpture by Non-Sculptors (August 6-September 10).
